Meet the Coach

Matt Rymzo has been the head coach of Stevenson’s boys tennis team since Spring 2016. He has a proven track record of success, leadership and commitment, leading the Pirates to five consecutive league championships since 2017 and maintaining an outstanding league record of 63-1 since 2018. Under his guidance, students learn discipline, teamwork and dedication while competing at a high level.

A Stevenson educator, Matt previously coached at St. George’s School and played Division III tennis at Middlebury College, where he was a two-year team captain and doubles champion.

Matt Rymzo took over the reins of the perennial league champion Stevenson boys tennis team in the spring of 2016. In 2025, the tennis team finished the regular season undefeated with a 12-0 league record and Stevenson players won the season-ending PCAL singles and doubles titles.

Training Advantage

At Stevenson, Tennis thrives within an athletic department that champions multi-sport participation. Guided by wellness and performance research, we develop well-rounded players while fully supporting those pursuing collegiate opportunities as well as those seeking the camaraderie and growth of being part of a team. Athletes have year-round access to courts and training spaces—ball machine work, serving targets, footwork ladders, and the weight room—for optional technical sessions (serve/return, footwork, patterns of play), doubles tactics, match play, and strength/mobility. In season, practices are purposeful and coaching is individualized; out of season, training is flexible—designed to complement other team commitments so students can excel across multiple sports.

Whether you’re preparing for college tennis or looking to contribute in a competitive, supportive environment, there’s a place for you in Stevenson Tennis.
