Meet the Coach

Jason MacArthur joined the Stevenson School coaching staff in the fall of 2020 as the girls varsity golf coach, taking over a very successful program with a rich history of success.

Through his leadership, the team has advanced through CCS the last 3 years, earning the opportunity to play at the CIF NorCal Championships in Berkeley. The team broke through in 2024 and moved on to take 4th place at the state’s final event.

Jason graduated from Pacific Grove High School and while playing on the boys golf team there, he experienced the high level of competition between the Pacific Grove Breakers and the Stevenson Pirates. During his time there the Breakers won one MTAL championship and Jason won numerous local AT&T junior golf tournaments.

After Pacific Grove, Jason attended Monterey Peninsula College where he played on the golf team during the 2000 season. That year the Lobos won the Coast Conference championship and he made the all conference team. They then moved on to win the NorCal championships, earning a spot in the CCCAA state championships where the team finished in 5th place against the best teams in the state. Jason matriculated on to San Diego State, earning his degree.

Jason and the coaching staff have watched the Stevenson program improve each year since 2020. The team has advanced through CCS the last 3 years, earning the opportunity to play at the CIF NorCal Championships in Berkeley. After falling short of advancing to the CIF State Championship event in 2022 and 2023, the team broke through in 2024 and moved on to take 4th place at the state’s final event. The team has their eyes set on winning the state title in 2025, with the top players tirelessly working on their skills year-round in this wonderful community which is built perfectly for golf.

Training Advantage

At Stevenson, golf is a high-performance program within an athletic department that champions multi-sport participation—many of our golfers also compete in other sports, and our calendar is built to make that possible. We contend for state titles annually, and roster spots, travel squads, and lineup positions are earned through performance and accountability; it’s a true meritocracy.

Our athletes have access to train year-round, taking full advantage of our Pebble Beach location with access to world-class venues like Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills, the Pebble Beach Golf Academy, and exclusive access to the training facility at Bayonet & Black Horse. Coaching emphasizes course strategy, practice discipline, competitive readiness, and mental performance.

In season, practices are purposeful and competition-focused; out of season, training is flexible to complement other team commitments while maintaining high standards. The program centers on consistent practice, competitive play, and personal development—supported by top-tier facilities and a culture of excellence on and off the course.

Whether you’re targeting college golf or eager to grow within a competitive team environment, Stevenson Golf provides the pathway.
