Meet the Coach

Ron Provost is a veteran track coach and educator with over 30 years of experience. He has contributed to the development of athletes who hold 20 of the 37 Stevenson school records and two Monterey County records and leads a great team of event coaches.

With a team motto of “your only competitor is yourself,” Ron strives to foster a feeling of acceptance and accomplishment with the over 80 athletes he works with each season.

Ron Provost joined the Stevenson School faculty in 1999 as a science teacher and residential faculty member, as well as a track and football coach.

Ron assumed the head coaching position of the track and field program in 2011, overseeing both the boys and girls teams. His 2013 boys team won the MTAL meet championship and his 2019 girls team won the PCAL Mission Division title. He was named the recipient of the Dormer Coaches Award in 2018.

In recent years at Stevenson, Ron has produced numerous CCS Finalists and college athletes, including a Division III All-American, several college league title holders, an ACC Champion, two-time DI 2nd-team All-American and a world U-20 bronze medalist. The track & field team has also won CCS Academic Honors twice in the last four years.

Ron is certified by USA Track and Field as a Level 2 Coach in Sprints and Jumps and a Level 1 coach of all other disciplines. He is also USATF Official Certified in the vertical and horizontal jumps.

As an outstanding athlete in the prep ranks, Ron was a four-time NEPSAA New England track and field meet participant, competing in the 4x100m, long jump, shot put, discus and 200m. He was part of a school-record 4×100 relay team.

Team Awards: Three league championships; 2024-2025 champions of the Mission Division Championship Meet.

Individual Awards: One 2025 PCAL High Jump Champion; 15 2025 CCS Semi-Finalists; five 2025 PCAL Gabilan Division 1st Team All-League runners; 12 2025 PCAL Gabilan Division 2nd Team All-League runners; one 2025 Nike High School Nationals qualifier; six 2025 PCAL – Mission Division Masters Auto-Qualifiers; 14 2025 PCAL Masters Qualifiers.

Collegiate Excellence: Stevenson’s track & field athletes consistently advance their athletic and academic journeys at outstanding colleges and universities, with many earning Division I and Division III opportunities thanks to rigorous preparation and high-level coaching. Whether sprinting, jumping, throwing or racing, they graduate with the technical skill, strength, discipline and competitive resilience to thrive in NCAA programs and represent their schools with pride. Alumni have gone on to standout collegiate careers at institutions such as Indiana University and Bowling Green University, with some even competing in the Olympics – success stories that reflect the program’s ability to develop athletes with elite competitiveness and the discipline to excel at both the collegiate and professional levels.
