Meet the Coach

Justin Clymo ’93 brings more than two decades of high school coaching experience and a strong record of program-building and leadership to the Pirates’ sideline.

Known for his emphasis on fundamentals, preparation and team culture, Justin has developed student-athletes who succeed both on the court and in the classroom. Under his leadership, Stevenson basketball players have advanced to collegiate programs and contribute meaningfully to the broader school community.

In addition to being the head girls basketball coach, Justin Clymo also serves as Stevenson’s director of athletics. A Stevenson alumnus and veteran educator, Justin brings more than two decades of high school coaching experience and a strong record of program-building and leadership to the Pirates sideline.

Justin began his coaching career at El Camino High School in Sacramento, where he led the boys basketball team to a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section title in 2008, setting a section record with 59 second-half points in the championship game. He went on to coach at Palma School in Salinas before returning to Stevenson in 2010.

In his first stint with the Stevenson girls basketball program, Justin guided the team to a CCS semi-final appearance in 2015. After several years leading the boys team – including four CCS semi-finals and a finals appearance – he returned to the girls sideline in 2023, most recently leading the team to a 20–6 record in 2024-25 and a CCS quarterfinal finish.

Known for his emphasis on fundamentals, preparation and team culture, Justin has developed student-athletes who succeed both on the court and in the classroom. Under his leadership, Stevenson basketball players have advanced to collegiate programs and contribute meaningfully to the broader school community.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Justin has served as Stevenson’s director of athletics since 2017. During his tenure, the department has experienced record success across multiple sports, including league and section titles, NorCal championships and a CIF State Championship in 2025. He was honored as the 2024 CSADA State Athletic Director of the Year.

Justin holds deep roots in the game – earlier in his career, he was part of the coaching staff at UC Davis under Bob Williams and Brian Fogel during the team’s run to the 1998 NCAA Division II National Championship.

He and his wife, Amy, have three children: Kailey (Cal Poly, Class of 2025), Sydney (Cal Poly, Class of 2027), and Lincoln, a current 10th grader at Stevenson.

Training Advantage

At Stevenson, Basketball lives within an athletic department that champions multi-sport participation. Guided by evidence that multi-sport athletes excel and stay healthier, we develop well-rounded players while fully supporting those pursuing high-level, college opportunities. Athletes have year-round access to basketball facilities for optional skill work, film study, and strength training. In season, practices are purposeful and coaching is individualized; out of season, training opportunities are flexible and designed to complement other team commitments so students can thrive across multiple sports.
